Meet our team…

who we are…

NICK WOOD

Account Director

7 years with Creation, 30 years in design industry

Role: Manages all projects for Creation's clients, from initial briefing to completion. Advises clients on industry best practice. Strong print background means Nick oversees the implementation of all print projects.

Best bit of the job: 'When a job's been delivered, and the client's happy. Even better when they come back in a few months time and tell us their sales have risen by x % — that they've achieved their goals.'

Tip for great design: 'Keep the message clear and simple.'

Secret of Creation's success: 'We listen to what clients want and we make sure we deliver. We're very easy to get on with. Our clients trust our advice — they know we'll always suggest the route that's best for them.'

ROB WILKINS

Creative Director

7 years with Creation, 25 years in design industry

Role: Rob is the lead graphic designer at Creation, working on projects from initial brief to completion. Highly experienced in print, digital and exhibition graphics, Rob also liaises with clients and art directs marketing photo shoots.

Best bit of the job: 'Coming up with the initial concepts is still the most exciting part of a designers job. Obviously I like seeing the completed project, and knowing my work has helped them achieve their goal, but you can't beat working on your sketch pad, and knowing you've come up with something that captures a client's brand, and that will really work.'

Secret of Creation's success: 'We ask clients the right questions to get the right answers. Understanding what our clients need, means we can help them achieve their goals.'

ria

Ria ashley

Graphic Designer

1 YEAR with Creation, Graphic Design Graduate

Role: Working on projects from initial brief to completion. Working on both digital and print projects.

Best bit of the job: I like the variety of work. Staying ahead of new design developments and new technologies is important — I like learning new things and putting them into practice.

Top tip for great design: It needs to work, be visually appealing and fit for purpose.

Secret of Creation's success: We're a very open minded company, both in terms of clients and portfolio. Creation designs for a huge variety of clients with varying projects, and that diversity keeps it current.

DAVID DAW

MANAGING Director
25 years with Event

Role: Finding clients and running the company. Involved in the creative side of projects alongside making sure we're working well as a business.

Best bit of the job: 'When it works. Results. There's a lot of vanity our business — people want the biggest, the flashiest — but what's most important is that we deliver the best sales opportunities. Money well spent makes me happy — when a client puts in 10 and gets back 100 — seeing real results for clients is good.'

Tip for great marketing: 'Be clear about what you're selling. Understand your customers, and see your product from their point of view. Our perspective and experience offers clients valuable insight into customer behaviour — we help clients get the offer right.'

david

"It's no good designing a fantastic project for a client if your project management is no good. It's all in the detail. We think of everything, don't leave anything to chance, and make life as easy as possible for our clients."

NICOLA URQUART

Project Manager
6 years with Event

Role: Project manages the exhibition stands, liaising between clients and technical teams. Also involved in new business research and sales.

Best bit of the job: 'Speaking to clients. I love hearing about their new products, finding out what they do, learning about their businesses. It's great to share their successes, and to know that we've helped.'

Tip for great marketing: 'It can be difficult for a new client to know where to exhibit. I've got a really good overview of which shows work best for which sectors, so I'm able to advise new clients of the right one to choose.'

Secret of our success: 'It's all about the people. We're not a big company, but we're all experienced and very professional. Everyone takes the job very personally. Our clients are genuinely important to us — we all want to do the best for them.'

nicola

"I especially enjoy working with our Welsh clients. Great people with good sense of humour. We've worked with the Welsh Farms since 2007, and have developed a really good working relationship."

ANGIE DAW

Finance Director
20 years with Event

Role: As well as handling the financial side of the business, Angie is involved in business strategy and marketing.

Best bit of job: Love the developmental side of the role — business strategy. Seeing how we can take the business further. Gives me a great perspective for helping our clients too. Asking 'what do you want to achieve?' is crucial to success. How will you know if you've got there if you don't know where you're going?

Tip for great marketing: Know why you're doing it. It's no point spending just because it's something you've always done. Keep asking yourself 'why?' Clear goals help you succeed.

Secret of our success: 'We listen to clients. We learn from every job. We look after the small details.'

angie

"We listen to clients. We learn from every job. We look after the small details."

ANDY JAMES

Senior Project Manager
2.5 years with Event
25 years in Exhibitions business

Role: Andy manages the Exhibition planning and execution. Draws up detailed plans, sorts electricity and plumbing supplies, decides on best methods of construction. A background in building stands means he really knows his stuff. Andy also handles most of our overseas Exhibitions.

Best bit of the job: 'The handover. It's a real buzz when the client sees the stand for the first time. Although they'll have seen all the plans, and pictures, it's not the same as seeing the real thing.'

Tip for a great exhibition: 'Detailed planning. I like to have plans B,C, D and E up my sleeve in case things don't work out the way I wanted. I'd say that for a client at an exhibition, planning is everything too. Think about how you're going to spend your time, what your potential customers want, and make sure you organise your team to deliver.'

andy

"I make sure there are no short cuts.' Ensure stands are delivered and built to client's satisfaction.

We handle the whole process, so it's easy for our clients to perform their best."

CLAIRE ELLIS

Administration Manager
Joined Event 2006

Role: Admin for shows and exhibitions — booking places, people, sorting out attendance lists, contracts etc. Also handles office administration.

Best bit of the job: 'The variety — it's nice working on the shows as well as the business.'

Top tip for great exhibition: 'Get the right people working for you. Exhibitions are all about selling, so you need to make sure you can concentrate on that. Work with a company that will take care of everything else, and make your life as easy as possible.'

Secret of our success: 'The quality of our product sets us apart — everything we design and create is of a really high standard. And our service is excellent, we go above and beyond what clients expect. Lastly, we're good value. Not the cheapest, but excellent value for money.'

claire

I enjoy putting business systems in place to make things run more efficiently. The people here are great, it's a lovely place to work.

DEBBIE SHORTER

Accounts Manager
Joined the company at the end of 2010

Role: Debra is highly experienced accounts manager, working in the business for 20 years. She's responsible for all of Creation and Events accounts — organising invoices, payments and making sure the money side of the business runs smoothly.

Secret of our success: 'Our experience. No-one knows this business like we do. There's a great team here, we all work together very well.'

debbie

'Because I'm office based I don't get so involved in the day-to-day client side of the business. I've seen Creation's work, and I was very impressed.'

HAYDN MORGAN

haydn

"Be very clear on what you want to achieve. I can design you a stand with a real 'wow' factor that will draw people in, but then it's over to you to use it to hit your sales target"

Head of Exhibition Design
10 years with Event
43 years in design industry

Role: Based in Cardiff studio, designing Exhibition stands. Interpreting clients' briefs in the most creative, practical and cost-effective way, Haydn draws up plans for the technical team to build.

Best bit of the job: 'Always moving on to the next challenge. Exhibition design is never repetitive, there's something new all the time.'

Secret of our success: 'I've got a card on the wall from a client that says 'All the visitors were blown away by your design, and once again you've made exhibiting at the Show really easy.' That sums it up. We think of everything from the client's point of view. Whether it's our comprehensive and clear pricing, or it's making sure we set the stand up perfectly (we don't leave clients to unpack boxes of sales materials, for example) — we pay attention to every detail.'

Trevor deery

trevor

"I've done all sorts over the years. Mending shoes, fixing glasses. Getting the little things right as well as the big ones makes all the difference."

Stand coordinator
9 years with Event

Role: Responsible for ensuring Event is compliant with ISO Health And Safety and Environmental regulations. Stock management in warehouse. Stand manager for Exhibitions. 'A big part of my role is being there on site during Exhibitions for clients. I arrive before a Show starts, and stay on site until everything is packed away at the end. Making sure everything runs smoothly - that's my role. It's very varied. I make sure the electricity supply is right, that the plumbing is working, that the kitchens have everything they need. I take everything to a Show that the client needs - even tea and coffee.'

Best bit of the job: 'Meeting so many people, year after year. That's the reason I do the job.'

Secret of our success: 'It never stands still. It's always looking at ways to make it better, for the clients as well as staff. New ideas, they're what make Event great.'

JERRY GRAY

jerry

"Even if you're building the same structure there are always new challenges — different grounds, different weather conditions — and that keeps it interesting."

Senior Project Manager
2 and half years with Event
17 years in Exhibitions industry

Role: Preparing the internal and external structures for Shows at the Patney warehouse. Checking plans. Constructing stands on site.

Best bit of the job: I enjoy the travel — China, America, France, Germany — and the fact that no two jobs are the same.

Top tip for great Exhibition: Good communication between client and Exhibition team. Be clear about what you want, so the team can deliver it.

Secret of our success: Small team means personal service. We all do our best for our clients.

NEIL MORGAN

neil

"Make sure you keep talking to the clients, and that everyone knows what's going on. Sometimes plans change, so keep everyone informed"

Exhibition manager
8 years with Event
22 years in Exhibitions industry

Role: Neil is an exhibition carpenter by trade. Divides his time between the warehouse at Patney, and working on site during shows. 'Organising the logistics. Problem solving. Working out how to deliver what the client wants.'

Best bit of the job: Seeing something that was just an idea in someone's head transformed into a real construction. I quite miss the carpentry, but creating the stands from nothing comes close. It's an achievement.'

Top tip for great Exhibition: 'Don't get drunk.' or 'Good communication.'

Secret of our success: 'Investment in the company. We read the markets very well. And we keep our clients happy.'
